Wacky Collages Steps: 1. Collect at least 5 images that could work together. 2. Collect at least 3 backgrounds. 3. Play with changing the scenarios, placing different elements in unusual areas. *Don't make the final glueing until you've experimented a bit. Have fun! Gridded Drawing with Design Steps: 1. Select an image from a magazine. Choose one that you are interested in drawing. Also, keep in mind your comfort with drawing - choose something you are comfortable with, yet also know will be a challenge. 2. Prepare the image with a 1" x 1" grid. 3. On a piece of sketch paper, draw the contour of a simple value scale. 4. Number the scale from 1 - 10. Remember, 1 will be your lightest value and 10 will be your darkest. 5. Begin filling in each numbered space with the appropriate value. But, instead of shading it, you will be creating a design that can be used to simulate that particular value. See example below. Can you identify which are the lighter and darker values? 6. On the provided grid and your gridded image, label the appropriate letters and numbers across the tops and sides. 7. Begin sketching in the contour of the image. 8. On your image, identify the areas of darks and lights. When ready, use a Sharpie to begin filling in the designs you've created to match the appropriate values. Go! |
